Frequently Asked Questions

What is Early Childhood Intervention?

The main goals of the NDIS Early Childhood Intervention is to enable children with disabilities or developmental delays, and their support networks, to understand and develop their skills and take part in day-to-day activities. By providing this support as early as possible in a child’s life, the NDIS is seeking to minimise the amount of complex supports they may require as they grow up.

Who is eligible?

If your child is between 0-6 years and has a disability or developmental delays, they may be eligible. You don’t need to get a formal diagnosis to access Early Childhood Interventions, but can use written statements from teachers, family, or carers, to highlight why Early Childhood Intervention would be beneficial.

What supports are available?

Depending on your child’s needs, Early Childhood Intervention supports can be used to therapies, such as speech therapy, Occupational Therapy (OT), psychology, or exercise physiology. The funding can also support low cost assistive technologies, such as iPads, for therapy or other supports to be accessed remotely.

Some consumables, like continence products, can also be funded. The specific supports your child can access will depend on their plan. Some funding can be spent on a variety of supports, while other funding is given for a specific supports or purposes only, such as getting assessments or therapies.
